| | It's really exciting to be back on a computer. The librarian says there's a time limit, so I have to be fast. Did you know we were at war? I HAD NO IDEA. I can't believe it. There were people that bombed the World Trade Center. What happened to the world while I was in the hospital?
I'm only fifteen, so I don't have to really be a big part of anything yet, but that just makes me sad.
I talked to my Uncle Ben in New York on the phone today. He said that he saw the whole thing happen. The planes hit, people jumping out of the windows to escape the flames (he said he started falling apart when the little specks started falling), and then the towers' collapse. He was a little more than a mile away at the time, though. So he didn't get all dusty like everyone else did. And then yesterday, he went by the site again, and it was still smoldering, and the smell was still awful. He wanted to cry again, and he told me he was still trying to sind out if they found his friend Dave's body. Did you know there was this organization called the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council that gave artists studio space in the World Trade Centers? They're all gone.
And then, he said that this morning on the 1 train downtown while they were stopped at the 42nd street station, he said something fell from the tunnel ceiling onto the train roof and that the MTA stopped the train for fifteen minutes while they investigated. And he was scared he was going to die again. They found anthrax next door to his girlfriend's office and he's all messed up still even though it's already been eight weeks. I tried to make a joke and tell him that it'll all be okay, and that the only reason Superman didn't save the WTC is that he's a damn cripple now. He didn't think that was very funny, and now I don't either. The world isn't going to be a fun place for a while.
I hope to god there's still a place for art out there in the world. |
